Charcoal and other media that captures the energy of the places that move me, from Texas backroads and stormy skies to the sweeping landscapes of our national parks. I try to work fast, raw and rooted in memory, each piece signed simply: BTM
I didn't set out to become an artist. What started as a way to capture moments at home and on the road, quiet coasts, a crooked Texas fence line, the towering walls of a canyon, has become a practice of slowing down and telling a story through light and shadow.
I enjoy working with charcoal, as it moves fast and allows me to be in the moment without missing other moments, but I don't limit myself to just one media. Most of my drawings are created in the middle of life: A hike with my kids, during a road trip or in hours in the middle of a busy life. That speed lets me catch the energy of a place before it slips away, while the texture and grit of the medium ground each piece in something timeless.
My work often circles back to places that feel like home, the Texas coast, rustic backroads, wide skies heavy with clouds. Other times, it stretches to state and national parks and wild landscapes that leave their mark on anyone who walks them. No matter the subject, I create to remember, and to share a piece of how those moments feel.
I sign everything simply, BTM. Its a way of keeping thing honest, just me, the art and the story on the paper. Contact me at studiobtm.art@gmail.com
